Receive it. Review it. Follow it through.
Give the team handling your maintenance paperwork a shared approach, whether they are new to the role or refreshing existing knowledge.
- Recognise which certificate or report you have received.
- Check the job, scope, dates, signatures and supporting evidence.
- Record questions and follow up outstanding actions rather than simply filing the document.
Desk-based review skills, with clear limits on technical judgement.
Who is it for?
Office teams, contract administrators, facilities and maintenance managers, construction managers and caravan park management.
What you will learn
- Connect workplace duties with the need to commission competent electrical work and act on findings.
- Recognise a Minor Works certificate, Electrical Installation Certificate and EICR; check identity, scope, dates, signatures, limitations and outcomes.
- Recognise MCB, RCD/RCCB and RCBO markings, current ratings and residual-current test terminology; 30 mA and 30 ms are different quantities.
- Work through original good, incomplete and inconsistent paperwork cases, including alternative R1+R2 or R2 fields, insulation-resistance notation and missing follow-up.
- Record a query and return it to the responsible competent person; track actions before closing the job.
Read → Practise → Check
Start with clear illustrated reading and a glossary. Follow a worked example, complete guided and independent workbook practice, then check your understanding. Reading opens within the SJB training app and saves your place when signed in and connected. Downloaded workbook answers stay in your saved PDF copy.
Estimated time: About two hours of reading and certificate-review practice, plus a separate 45–60-minute assessment when arranged.
Assessment arrangements: the 35-question assessment PDF is supplied. Socrative online assessment entry will follow separately when available. Reading progress is not an assessment pass; this launch does not include a connected Socrative exam or an assessed certificate.
Scope and next steps
For those receiving and managing paperwork. Administrative checking does not replace technical inspection, validate an installation or authorise office staff to edit readings. Workers delivering installations or tests need the appropriate practical training.
This specialist course is separate from the fourteen-module Foundation collection.

Connect certificate review with Electricity at Work awareness
Use the course to support a consistent maintenance-paperwork process: identify the document, check it relates to the job, record queries, refer technical judgements to the responsible competent person and track the response. An EICR reports the condition of an existing installation within its stated extent and limitations; it is different from a certificate for installation work.
The linked Electricity at Work online course adds the wider duties-and-dangers context. Records can help demonstrate and review maintenance arrangements, but completing training or filing paperwork does not establish that an installation is safe.
Primary references: HSE guidance on the Electricity at Work Regulations and IET model certificates and reports. Check the edition, report wording and inspector’s recommendations when reviewing observations.
Questions and answers
Is filing a completed certificate enough?
No. Check that the paperwork relates to the work, is complete and intelligible, and that concerns and required actions reach the responsible competent person. A neat form alone is not assurance.
Does this teach me to inspect or certify an installation?
No. It develops management and administrative review skills. It does not confer an electrical qualification or replace the signatory’s technical responsibility.
Is there a management bundle?
Yes. Electricity at Work plus Certificate Review is £175, saving £15. Certificate Review is separate from the fourteen-module Foundation collection.
