This privacy notice explains how SJB Smart Electricals Limited, trading as SJB Smart Electricals Training & Consultancy (“SJB”, “we”, “us” or “our”), collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit sjbelectricaltraining.com, contact us, request a quotation, book training or consultancy, or otherwise deal with us.
Who is responsible for your information?
SJB Smart Electricals Limited is the data controller. Questions or requests about personal information should be emailed to steve@sjbsmartelectricals.com.
Information we may collect
- identity and contact details, such as your name, job title, employer, postal address, telephone number and email address;
- enquiry, quotation, booking and order details, including the course, location, dates, delegate requirements and correspondence;
- delegate and training records, including attendance, assessment results, certificates and reasonable adjustments that you choose to tell us about;
- billing and transaction information, including invoice details and payment status. Card payments are handled by the relevant payment provider and we do not normally receive or retain full card details;
- marketing preferences and records of communications with us; and
- technical and usage information, such as IP address, browser, device, referring page and website activity, subject to your cookie choices.
We usually receive information directly from you. A business customer or employer may also give us delegate information when arranging training. Website, security, analytics and payment providers may supply technical or transaction information.
Why we use information and our lawful bases
- Enquiries, quotations and bookings: to respond, recommend suitable training, take steps at your request before entering a contract, and perform a contract.
- Training and consultancy delivery: to organise venues, communicate joining information, provide services, assess delegates where applicable, issue records or certificates, and maintain appropriate training records. We rely on contract, legal obligations and our legitimate interests in delivering safe, effective services.
- Payments, accounts and debt recovery: to issue invoices, process payments, keep tax and accounting records, and recover money owed. We rely on contract, legal obligations and legitimate interests.
- Website operation and security: to keep the website and services reliable, prevent misuse and investigate security incidents. We rely on legitimate interests and legal obligations.
- Analytics and non-essential cookies: to understand and improve the website, where you have given consent. You can withdraw consent through the Cookie Settings control.
- Marketing: to send relevant updates where you have consented or where permitted by law and our legitimate interests. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Legal claims and compliance: to establish, exercise or defend legal rights and comply with lawful requests.
Where information is needed to enter into or perform a contract, failure to provide it may mean that we cannot accept or fulfil the booking.
Who we share information with
We only share information where reasonably necessary. Recipients may include:
- instructors, assessors, venues, awarding or certification bodies, and delivery partners involved in the service;
- payment providers, banks, accountants and professional advisers;
- website hosting, email, cloud, security, analytics, customer-management and IT service providers;
- travel or accommodation providers where arrangements form part of an agreed service; and
- regulators, courts, law-enforcement bodies or other authorities where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
We do not sell personal information.
International transfers
Some service providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, we use an applicable adequacy regulation or appropriate contractual and organisational safeguards required by UK data-protection law.
How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, including:
- general enquiries and unsuccessful quotations: normally up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact;
- contracts, orders, invoices and core accounting records: normally six years after the relevant financial year or completion of the contract;
- training, assessment and certificate records: normally six years, or longer where an awarding body, regulator, safety requirement or agreed customer requirement applies;
- marketing records: until you unsubscribe or the information is no longer useful, with suppression records retained so that we respect your choice; and
- cookie and analytics information: for the periods described in our Cookie Policy and the relevant Cookie Settings panel.
We may keep information for longer where necessary for a legal claim, regulatory obligation or active dispute.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure, so please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information by ordinary email.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase or restrict your information, object to processing, receive portable data, and withdraw consent. These rights are not absolute and exemptions may apply.

Children
Our website and services are intended for business customers and adult learners. If information about a learner under 18 is required for a legitimate training arrangement, it must be supplied by an authorised adult or organisation and will be handled with appropriate care.
